How do I download a rental?

every time I rent a movie from iTunes on my laptop I can never seem to find the "rental" location on my iPad. I'm confused, as usual.

See if this support article helps:

Sounds like you need to sync it to your iPad from your computer if that is where you initiated the rental and downloaded it to.

The OP was not asking where to find it if it was on the iOS device. They were asking how to get it to the iOS device to start with....
