Does App Store not accept debit cards as payment options?

I had been trying to get the ap store to accept my debit card details from my iphone. Since it wasn't working, I thought I'd try from my laptop. While doing that I read the words "Credit Card Details" and so iwas wondering whether it only accepts credit cards??
