I get this message when trying to open pictures from an oldback up from a Seagate External hard drive.
'The file " .jpg" could not be opened
It maybe damaged use a file format preview doesnt recognise.
this happens a lot.the picture within the folder says "jpeg" but the name under the picture says jpg.
Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)
Which App are you attempting to open the files with?
How were the photos created? Camera?
What is the file size and dimension shown by Get Info? Does it seem reasonable?
created with various cameras.i think it may have been caused by a corrupted/bad backup of my OS X files
