The way that your post reads, you are saying that you have an AirPort Extreme right now, which is acting as your wireless router, and you want the Belkin router to extend the signal from the AirPort Extreme.
The answer to that question is yes and no.
Yes, if you connect the Belkin router to the AirPort Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection and set up the Belkin to provide a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name, same password and same security as the AirPort Extreme.
No, if you are hoping that the Belkin can connect wirelessly to the AirPort Extreme and extend the network that way.

There are universal repeaters.. a belkin router will probably be exactly as Bob describes and not work.. but any universal repeater can work on an airport or any other wireless router.. but it is a poor setup.. even if you manage to press the belkin to do this.. eg flash it to third party firmware (very rare for belkin to do this).. the end result is still unreliable, slow and causes network issues.
If you MUST use a wireless repeater.. get another apple router.. even a second hand airport extreme like a gen4 or gen5 will work hugely better than another brand at pretty reasonable prices.
The roaming network method.. where you plug in by ethernet is far superior and will work with almost any router.. even if it doesn't have a WAP mode you can use WAN Bypass.. just google for it.. any wireless router consists of a router plus wireless AP.. and it is always possible to bypass the router side, by plugging ethernet into LAN and setup the IP in the unit so it matches the network and dhcp off.
