I Like to fall asleep listening to music but I don't want it to play all night. Is there a way to set up, on the iPad, to have music play for a specific length of time, such as an hour? Or until a certain time, such as midnight?

You bet.
Go to the Clock App, select Timer, then scroll to the very bottom of the Ringtones selector and select "Stop Playing".
The timer can also be reach from the Control Center, just tap the icon.
THank you so much! I've been using an iPod Nano with earbuds which, as you can imagine, is not exactly comfortable.
