Mine had been working perfectly well with EE most of this year. Then I upgraded my ATV3 to 7.2.2 and it now gives the same error as the OP gets. Unfortunately, now it's no longer possible to downgrade to 7.2.1 or 7.2.0.
This appears to be a problem with ATV3 7.2.2+Netflix+EE 4G but everyone points fingers at the others.
I have same problem with ATV3 on 7.2.2 + Netflix + EE 4G tethering to my iPhone. Only get the error when the video is trying to start, and shows menus etc without problem. Tether to my wife's iPhone instead on Three and no problem, will stream OK.
I have the same problem, whenever I try to view any content on Netflix all I get is the 139:NFErr_MC_AuthFailure message. Tried with other devices and the problem seems to be only with ATV (3rd gen, software updated)
well, i believe i found a solution. Go to Netflix no a computer, login and go to account settings. Then, choose the opción CLOSE SESSIONS ON ALL DEVICES. go yo ATV, close the Netflix session AND then log back in. This worked for me, hope it works for you too
If you are using static routes in your router blocking Google DNS remove it and try again. This will fix the error 139 message.
I have the same problem when using a EE mobile router but not when I use Sky broadband. Is the problem unique to people using EE?
I get this error since changing my ISP from Plusnet to EE using a 4G Router. Fine with Plusnet; fails with EE. Other streaming services (iTunes Movies and Now TV) work fine with EE. I have tried all the things mentioned on this thread (logging out devices on Netflix account, no static routes in my router, also tried 8.8.8.8 as my DNS). Problem still exists.
I have the same problem since changing my ISP to Movistar using 4G Router 20MBs download.
This happen only with apple TV 2G and 3G. It works fine in other apple divices and smart TV.

I am afraid I have not found a solution yet. For the moment, I am using a workaround via Airplay.

Don't know if you have figured this out yet. I found restoring my Apple TV helped. That allowed for it to update and connect. Goodluck!
