Q: Macbook Pro and iPhone 6 won't connect via Bluetooth

My Macbook Pro and iPhone 6 won't connect to each other via Bluetooth so I cannot use the Airdrop function. The names of each device appear on the other as an option but they then won't connect. Suggestions please!!

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.4, MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

airdrop is wifi not bluetooth the only thing the macbook pro and iphone can do together in terms of bluetooth is teething
