White powder coming off the charging cord

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a new MacBook and noticed that the supplied charging cord is a bit sticky when I touch it, and there is some kind of white powder coming off.

I wanted to know if this is some post-manufacturing residue that will go away or a defect.
