Text Message Code for iPhone 6

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air and both have iOS 8.4. I cannot send iMessages to non--Apple products. In other words I cannot send green messages from my IPad but I can from my iPhone. The problem is that I do not get a Text Message forwarding code from my iPad to enter into my iPhone when I try to send to a mobile number on an Android phone. All I get is a box which states that the phone number is not registerd with iMessage. In other words, I cannot turn on Text Message Forwarding on my iPhone because the code is not available. I know that it should be available for my wife has exactly the same products and iOS as I do and it works on her iPad but not mine.

Other information which may assist in the troubleshooting of my problem with the Text Messaging Code:

1. My iPad Air and my iPhone 6 are colocated and on a viable WiFi network. The iPad is only WiFi capable and the IPhone 6 is WiFi and cellular capable.

2. To the best of my knowledge prior to installing iOS 8.4, my iPad Air would send iMessages to non-Apple products, i.e., Android phones.

3. After installation of iOS 8.4 my wife's iPhone 6 and iPad Air had a problem with a default setting in "Do Not Disturb" which needed to be turned off in order to receive calls from Android phones. This has the following implication to me that installing iOS 8.4 on my iPad Air made some unexpected and unwanted default settings changes on my iPad. Do Not Disturb is turned off on both my iPhone and iPad so there must be some other hidden default setting change.

I turned off iMessage again on my iPhone and now I have my cell phone number checked and greyed out but this still did not permit me to get the Text Message Forwarding code from my iPad. Any phone number that is an Android phone number appears in red and the only option is to remove. No code provided to transfer to my iPhone. Same as my original problem.

This is a final followup to our discussion yesterday. I contacted Verizon, cell phone service provider, and confirmed with them that my SMS provisioning was working correctly and without difficulty. Unfortunately, the Verizon service tech did not even know that iMessage has the capability to send SMS/MMS texts to non-Apple users, but nevertheless text messaging on my iPhone 6 was tested satisfactorily. My next step is to try technical support at a local Apple Store. It is my conclusion, after several hours of wrestling with the problem, that the fault in the system is with my iPad Air, uniquely, for I have witnessed first hand the ability to send texts to non-Apple telephones but NOT on mine. Again, thanks for your assistance and if you have any additional ideas for correction of the problem please send them on!
