Aug 7, 2015 10:07 AM in response to stuartfromaskettby elcpu,I have seen a large amount of Other on my phone as well. Other is a "cache" of all kinds of data that you likely do not need. Here is what I would do. First backup your phone using iTunes so you have the latest backup possible. Then do a complete Reset and Restore. Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings. Then Restore your phone using the backup that you previously did. This clears the Other and has worked for me. Hope it helps you...

Aug 7, 2015 10:14 AM in response to stuartfromaskettby Drew Reece,★HelpfulSee this for instructions for viewing the data on the device…
See how much storage you've used on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
You can manually clean items from there or you can consider the erase & restore method that elcpu suggested. Restoring can reclaim a little free space but eventually the apps can cache the data again, you are better off changing the sync options to exclude some data or remove unused apps/ music/ videos etc.
'Other' in iTunes is a vague term that covers temporary files & system data, so you will have to dig into the list on iOS for better detail.

Aug 7, 2015 10:37 AM in response to Drew Reeceby elcpu,Clearing "Other" by the Erase and Restore method has removed several GBs of data from my phone in the past. You are right of course that over time some that free space will cache other data again. The 9.4 GBs that Stuart reports is a lot, he likely has some large files or videos that have been cached and if so the E&R method will delete those files and free a lot of space for him, I hope.

Aug 8, 2015 12:52 AM in response to elcpuby stuartfromaskett,Thanks elcpu and Drew. I've erased and restored and that has given a little extra. The "Other" is down to 8.2gb's. I've also reduced the photo and video area so much better thanks. However I would still like to understand what's i my Other are. Any idea where I go to fine this out?

It is just a case of trying to work out which apps may be responsible. Take a look at the more like this below too, I'm sure there is better info around. Just be careful when deleting apps, getting data back is problematic for things like games, some save progress online & restore it whilst others will only have it on the device.
Have a recent backup in iTunes - note you can 'archive' backups in iTunes by right clicking (or ctrl+click) in the list under Preferences > devices tab. It will freeze that backup and stop it being overwritten.

Aug 19, 2015 7:14 AM in response to elcpuby m65oli,i had the same problem and attempted the erase all content method. When I restored the back up I went from 2.79 Gb to 4.11. I can't figure what caused that. Any suggestions? Thanks.
