Question

Changing key of project without changing pitch Garageband v10.1.0

I started recording a project in Garageband v10.1.0 without putting much thought in labeling the key of the recording. Now that I'm well into the process I want to change the key to reflect the correct tonality (E major), but when I try to switch from C to E in the key slider, the pitch is shifted as well. How can I change the "key of the project" without affecting the pitch of the audio files?

It all depends what type of Audio Regions you have in your Project

New Audio Regions

If you have only newly recorded Audio Regions and you didn't use any Flex feature, then you can disable the Follow Tempo & Pitch on every Audio Region. Now you can change the Project Key without it affecting the Audio Regions

Apple Loops

If you use Apple Loops, then things are different. When importing Loops into your project, their "Follow Tempo & Pitch" feature is turned on so it transposes its original key to the key of your Project (and also adjusts the Tempo). When you change the Key of your Project, these Audio Regions will follow accordingly. You cannot turn the Follow Pitch off for those Regions, because then they would play back in their original key, which might be different from your Project Key.
