time machine xfer: old 10.5.8 to new M'bk pro; photos

I recently bought a Macbook Pro and Apple store could not migrate my data due to my old OS X 10.5.8. Apple store folks told me to backup old with Time Machine and transfer data. I did and now have 2 accounts on new Pro: my old macbook account and my new one. I have to log in and out of each. Issues are mostly with photos. iPhotos are in old account, but can't transfer to new Photos app in new account. They are on same new computer but in these 2 dif accounts. When I try to import photos from old iPhoto on old computer, event by event via flash drive, I get errors for many about metadata and pictures won't transfer.

Should I delete old account from new Pro and start over? My old computer is intact and backed up.
