Q: No sound in iTunes 12.2.1.16

When I first launch iTunes 12.2.1.16, I can play music from my own library fine.  Once I go to the iTunes store and try to play any preview, I get no sound.  I navigate back to my own library and I no longer get sound from my own library until I restart iTunes.  iTunes shows the song playing, but I hear no audio.  My iTunes volume is all the way up, and so is my OS volume.

I can repeat this consistently, across iTunes restarts and system reboots.  I don't have an Apple Express or AppleTV, so it's not an airplay issue.

I don't have any iTunes plug-ins.

I recently clean installed, so I don't have any gunk on my system.

Any help appreciated.

When you lose the sound output, do you also lose it in other applications, or only in iTunes?

Only in iTunes.  The iTunes player can be moving right along as if it's playing a song.  I'll hear no sound from iTunes, but I can go to Sound Preferences and trigger the alert sounds fine.

I've tried reinstalling iTunes as well and it did not help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest by launching iTunes and importing a few tracks. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

No sound from the iTunes store when I log in as guest.  I do get sound from Beats 1 Radio.  I always get sound from Beats 1 when I try it....  when I log in as guest and in my regular account.

If all the facts are as you've stated, you seem to be triggering a bug, though it's not one I've heard of before.
