Macbook Pro 13" (Early 2011) screen keeps fading

Hi,

So my warranty recently expired on my Macbook Pro 13" (Early 2011) and ever since, I've been experiencing problems with my screen. I'll be on my computer and all of a sudden the screen will beginning to fade out. It starts by inverting the colours of the page I was on and then the screen eventually becomes plain white with a series of pink/purple vertical lines throughout (as seen in the picture below). This will remain this way for about a minute and eventually the computer will come back to the original screen before the "event" occurred.

I really have no idea what this could be, has anyone else experienced this before? Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks for your help!

Mélissa

Hi mlss_mcauley,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

If you're seeing unexpected behavior such as fading out, inverted colors, and pink and purple lines on your MacBook Pro display, the following tips can help troubleshoot the situation.

Start with these hardware resets mentioned in Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays:

Reset the system

You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

Next, start your Mac in Safe Mode to see if the same thing happens there:

Starting up in safe mode

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

  1. Start or restart your Mac.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

If you don't hear a startup chime after pressing the power key, see what to do if your Mac won't turn on.

(From Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support)

All the best.
