I understand that you would like to copy your backup data from your old drive to your new drive and then set Time Machine to use your new drive. To accomplish both of these tasks, please read over and work through the steps outlined in the attached article below.

Aug 11, 2015 8:02 AM in response to joe_7399by Norris,Thank you Joe, this was a good article. The only trouble is, when the old Time Machine was copied onto the new drive, the corruption (flaw?) was copied too. The Time Machine couldn't write to it.
So I had to erase the new drive and start a new Time Machine from the beginning. That is now working fine. On the old disk, the backup copies are still accessible, so I guess I will have to leave it that way. Waste of a drive.
