Q: iTunes library and playlists have vanished! (12.2.1.16)

Hi guys, I'm freaking out here. I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3. I upgraded to iTunes 12.2.1.16 a bit ago, and everything seemed fine. Then I loaded up iTunes today only to find that all of my playlists and music had vanished!

The actual files are still there in my music library folder, but none of them appear in the app. I've tried to do the steps outlined here:

If you don't see your content after updating iTunes - Apple Support

but it hasn't had any effect. Has anyone else had this problem and is there any fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Okay, just kidding. The directions in the link DID work when I retried it, but they leave out/confuse an important step. In case anyone else has the same issue...

the link tells you to grab the current iTunes library file and drag it to the desktop. That file is a .xml. Then they tell you to drag in a file from the "previous iTunes libraries" folder. Those files are .itl files. So first I just followed the directions and dragged the .itl file, opened iTunes, and it didn't work. Then I dragged in the .itl file and renamed it to an .xml file... opened iTunes... still didn't work.

Finally I dragged in the previous library file and just deleted the extension ENTIRELY, reopened iTunes, and for whatever reason that worked. So if the instructions in the link aren't working try deleting the .itl file extension (but DON'T add the .xml extension. Leave it blank)
