com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9912

OS: 10.10.4

Processor: 2,7GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 4GB

Good morning all, I've the following problem when I try to download photos from my Canon EOS 40D DSLR camera (firmware 1.1.1) in Photos 1.0.1 app:

at a certain moment the app stops downloading photos and gives me core.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9912 for the remaining photos. I have to switch off and on the camera and download again the remains photos. Then it stops again and I have to repeat the procedure until I've downloaded all the photos.

I've tried with Aperture or ImageCapture 6.6 but the problems is the same (I presume from the error that they condivide the same core process).

Sometimes, if I don't start the download immediately, the error comes on the first photo. It looks like a sort of timeout. I've read about similar error in other discussions for previous OS but I've found no solutions. Anyone can help me? It's very annoying to use such a good computer this way.

More details:

  • in the camera there are jpeg and RAW images. Raw images take more time to download but if I download photos manually one by one, the error can happen both on jpeg or RAW images as well.
  • During printemps I've sent my camera to Canon for repairing a mechanical issue, and they've upgraded the firmware from v. 1.1.0 to 1.1.1. In the same period Apple has switched from iPhoto to Photos and done some updates. Previously the camera downloaded fine.
  • I don't think it's an issue related to the camera firmware since I can see that other user had the same problem with an upgrade of OS system or Photos app.

Solved. First of all, following suggestions from Canon, I've updated:

EOS Utility 2 to version 2.14.20

Digital Photo Professional to version 3.14.48.0

Probably they also updated some drivers inside iMac.

Then, I've connected the camera directly to the USB port of my iMac; before I had 1m USB passive extension cable permanently connected between iMac and camera USB cable.

I've noticed problems with USB passive extension cables with other devices that communicates at high speed. I'm sure the problem was related to the cable more than to the Canon software update. Maybe the update in the camera firmware increased the communication velocity or in the past I didn't use the extension cable, sincerely I don't remember. When I'll have free time I want to re-entroduce the extension cable and see the error.
