I bought a used imac that had final cut pro x installed on it and when I upgraded to yosemite, I needed to update my final cut pro x to use it , but I can't without the original apple id. How might I go about updating it without the original apple id? or am I just screwed........ Thanks.

Copies of programs downloaded through the Mac App Store are locked to a particular Apple ID. You can't update them without the account.

You need to buy it with your own Apple ID, or just delete it and stop using it.
