How can I unlock the fm radio chip on my iPhone?
How can I unlock the fm radio chip on my iPhone?
I wish we could get an unlocked chip finally.
The only device I have with FM radio is the old iPod Nano. After that they locked the chip for no reason. FM radio could be awesome when traveling. We don't need very long range for FM radio, but enough to listen some music.
The chip already exist in all devices...
NextRadio has an app that will work on phones that have their FM Chip unlocked. What this does is provide over the air FM radio on your phone. This does not use up any data on your phone and was developed for emergency situations. Most of the android phones, included Samsung, have been unlocked and able to be used with this service. Apple on the other hand, has been unwilling to unlock the FM chip in the iPhones.
What is NEXTRADIO? NextRadio combines broadcast radio with the internet to create an interactive listening experience on your smartphone. It’s radio like you’ve never seen before. And best of all, it’s FREE.

FM chip in an iPhone is neither locked nor unlocked. Its simply not connected to anything, nor is there any way to access it to tune a frequency.
Its physical lack of a connection to anything in the outside world prevent any software from working with it.
If you need FM reception, the iPhone is not the option.
Not to mention that it needs connections to get audio out, and connections to control tuning the FM radio. None of these exist in iPhones. So no antenna, no way to tune, no way to listen. How would nic727 propose getting around all of these facts?
There's a book about a similar situation for a human being: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. Read a wikipedia article about it, but don't read the book itself. It will give you nightmares for years.

Oh, dear, no. The Wikipedia article was bad enough.
You cannot get FM radio on your iPhone.
if it does have a fm chip and the connectors are connected to the antenna then you would likely need to reverse engineer ios to get that type of low level hardware assess for an app to take advantage of it
The Apple iTunes "Radio" is not an actual radio but an Apple provided service. There is not a true radio function on the iPhone.
There has never been FM on anything but the Nano. The iPhone has never had it an unless the FM broadcasters pass some sort of law to require it then I doubt it will ever be seen on an iPhone.

A chip, by itself, is not a radio. It needs a connection to an antenna and an antenna. The iPhone does not have that.
