Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Windows XP users with problems, try this.

When I first downloaded iTunes 7, everything seemed to download fine, QuickTime launched, but when I tried to launch iTunes nothing happened. I got an hourglass for a second, but then nothing. No errors, nothing.

But I fixed it -- I think it is important for all this to make sure your Windows software is up to date.

This is what I did:

1) Make sure you are up to date with your Windows XP software. I don’t do automatic updates, so there were a bunch I was missing. Go to Microsoft.com and update your computer with whatever it tells you to through their update tool. (Stands to reason that Apple was probably testing the new version of iTunes with the latest and greatest.)
2) Reboot
3) Go through your Control Panel, use add/remove programs, and remove iTunes, QuickTime, and iPod completely. (This will not remove your library of songs.)
4) Reboot
5) Download and install iTunes 7
6) Check your antivirus tool (I use McAfee) and make sure your firewall is allowing full access to iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, QuickTimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe, and QTInfo.exe

Once I did the above, iTunes 7.0.2.16 launched and loaded successfully! (Five hours later…)

Maybe this will work for some of you?

windows, Windows XP, McAfee Anti-Virus, Firewall

I downloaded about 70 various updates (yes, I was way behind), so I don't know which one(s) did the job, but I tried everything else discussed on these forums prior to doing that without success, so I'm convinced that must have done it. I could be wrong, though.

Maybe Windows Installer 3.1?

So, if you go to the Windows Update page, it tells you that you are completely up to date on your computer?
