Q: Different phone number for iMessage

I have an iPhone 5 and I'm trying to use iMessage. In Settings>iMessage>Send & Receive, I see the email that is linked to my Apple ID but the number is a totally different one. The phone was passed down through family members but that number is unfamiliar to them. The phone number that I have is already registered to my Apple ID but it is not changing

Can anyone help?

I already tried that. I'm more worried about that unknown number that is supposedly linked to my iMessage. I've signed out of iMessage and logged back in and it shows the correct number but when I click Next, the greyed out number under Send & Receive is a different one

As the article I attached says at the start:

"Your iPhone telephone number is linked to your Apple ID when you sign in to FaceTime or iMessage."

The number this refers to is the one that is grayed out.

So you need to get your own Apple ID.

The unknown number is undoubtedly one someone had who used this shared Apple ID.

But I already have one.. I signed in with in on iMessage and all other apps

Edit: When signing into iMessage, it shows the correct number and it verifies, but after that, it doesn't show the one I just verified with
