Q: Windows 8.1 hangs on restart if Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter connected

Hi,

I recently purchased a Dell T1700 as I need a CAD workstation with a dedicated CAD GPU, however I also do audio production. The computer has an Intel Thunderbolt card in the PCI-E slot.

The issue I have is that whenever the thunderbolt to firewire adapter is plugged in (on its own or with firewire device attached) the PC will hang on restart, but a cold startup works fine. Operation of the adapter is fine otherwise. Thus the only issue is that I cannot restart my PC if the adapter is connected without a system hang after POST and my firewire device cannot be hot-plugged. (Saffire Pro24 DSP)

The PC works flawlessly in all operations without the adapter connected.

I have had Dell send an engineer and replace the thunderbolt card -  same issue.

Other TB devices work fine.

The adapter works fine on mac.

I have been searching for the past week and I have not seen this issue at all on google or bing. Does anyone have any idea as to what the issue might be?

Cheers

After months of searching and Dell engineers trying to fix the issue, no solution can be found. It's either a fault with the Apple thunderbolt to firewire adapter or the dell (intel) thunderbolt card, both have been replaced though.
