Maps switching to driving instructions

Hi all,

I have the latest iOs 8 on my iPhone and use the Maps instructions a lot.

However, when I am on a bike, I choose 'Walking' instructions instead of 'Driving' instructions because the route is shorter and often better.

But quite often, if not always, after a few seconds to minutes on the bike with 'Walking' instructions, Siri tells me it's switching to 'Driving' instructions (presumably because of the speed with which I'm biking).

Does anyone know how to prevent this?

Also, this could potentially be very dangerous as 'Driving' instructions sends me to routes where biking is not allowed.

Any suggestions?

To Apple: can't you provide a 'Biking' instructions in Maps?

You may very well be correct about the reason for the switch, but then I've never tried it or seen any documentation regarding it.

You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user support forum. To provide feedback to Apple regarding features or requests for additional features, go to http://www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate subject area.

Michael, one suggestion might be to just map the route and not ask for driving/walking directions, i.e., just map the walking route but do not enable Start or Siri. I believe that it will then track your location as you go along. Not as good as getting turn by turn directions but may be a work around....

I also second AJ's suggestion. I use Google Maps myself and it has biking directions although they may not be the bike route you may really want (my wife and I are cyclists also).

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

I know very well this is a user forum and I know about the feedback system, but you never know if someone from Apple might actually read this.

About the Google Maps suggestion: Apple Maps works so well on the Apple Watch that I prefer using Apple Maps (Google doesn't have the Apple watch integration yet and I like Apple Maps way better).

No one a suggestion on how not to let Apple Maps switch to driving instructions from walking instructions automatically?

IF you want to be certain that someone from Apple reads your suggestion, you use the feedback link.

You probably did not get a suggestion about not letting it switch because there is no method to do that. There is no setting for it, but evidently there seems to be coding in the program that will let it know you are traveling too fast to be walking, so consequently it changes for you automatically, as if you made a mistake by choosing walking directions.
