Import Photos with Date Taken in Filename

I used to be able to import pictures from my iphone and use the date taken in the file name, but now I do not see that option anymore. I am just using the Windows autoplay feature "Import pictures and video". I can create folders named with the date taken, but the photos themselves are being tagged as just DSC_0001.jpg.

Is this a Windows 7 limitation? I believe my previous machine was XP? I'm using an iPhone 6 iOS 8.4.

I have Windows 7 as well and that is how they "import" on my computer. You can name the folder as you wish but the pictures come across like you mentioned. Even if you were to bypass the Autoplay Import feature (which I often do by opening the iPhone folder and copying the pictures) the pictures retain the names given by the iPhone, not a date name. The only other option I can think of is to look at other software to import the pictures but I doubt you will find one that tags them by their original taken date. This is not what you wanted to hear but I hope it helps...

I would not want a folder for every different date either but you can control that, when you import just name the folder as you wish, i.e., Florida Vacation. As far as seeing the date in thumbnail view, I am on my Mac now but will check my PC later. I know that you can get out of thumbnail view, go to details and sort by date taken, and then go back to thumbnail view and the pictures will appear in the order taken (I know, not the same as having the date underneath).
