Quicktime Audio Recording "not responding" when trying to save

I used Quicktime Pro on a Windows 8 PC to audio record an interview. When I stopped the recording to save it, it froze and says "Quicktime Player is not responding." I have the option of closing the program or waiting for it to respond. It's been about 24 hours that I've opted to "wait". Help! I'm desperate to not lose this interview. What can I do?
