I am currently using iCloud to store my photos, 3600 of them. On my iPhone under Photos and Camera, it shows that I have 2.7 GB of photos on my phone. Since I have my photos in iCloud, can I delete the photos on my iPhone (2.7 GB)? I want to make sure I don't delete the photos on my phone and at the same time delete the ones on iCloud storage. I want to do this to free up space on the iPhone. BTW, IOS 8.4 on iPhone 5.S
If you delete them on your phone you will delete them in iCloud (unless your turn Photos OFF in iCloud but then you would not back up new ones). Your best bet is to import or copy them to your PC or Mac and after you have verified that they are there and in a safe location, delete them.
I guess I don't understand iCloud then. I thought if they were stored in iCloud then I could view them from my connected devices and not have to have them on each device? So you can't delete them from the iPhone and have them stay in iCloud?

The one above states: When you delete a photo or video from your Photos app, it will also delete from your iCloud Photo Library and iCloud storage. You can recover your photos and videos from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days.

So it looks like I will have to use Flicker or Amazon or Google to have true photo storage off the iPhone. I gather this by the answers I received, which did not answer my question of being able to store photos on iCloud and not occupying space on the device, i.e.: iPhone .
I agree with you. I use other web based storage services and find them much better. They do not sync automatically which is ok with me (actually I prefer it that way). 🙂
I recommend downloading dropbox. It automatically saves your photos whenever you connect your phone to your computer. Dropbox is a similar cloud based storage that you can access via computer, app and I believe via website.
I also do not understand the concept of iCloud if you can't delete a photo off just one device in the iCloud.
