Q: do I have to have my phone with me to use my watch to track my activitity !

I just got back from an 8 mile walk and my watch says I completed 8 minutes of my 20 minute workout.. This is a crappy app !!

    The watch will only record the walk properly if your heart rate is elevated and you've started a workout. Even then, as has been reported here in many threads, it can be inconsistent.

     

    If you want to do something other than dismiss the app as crappy, report yoru experience to Apple at the link below - the more data Apple has, the more likely there is to be an effective fix.

     

    In the meantime, while taking the phone with you will record distance (via the phone GPS), it won't of itself make the watch record more activity
