Macbook Pro running hot, loud fans since 10.10.4

Hi all,

Ever since installing 10.10.4 my macbook has been like a new computer. It runs at the same speed, but its fans are running much more frequently, and it just feels very hot. I never, ever used to hear the fans. Ever! Presumably, as a consequence of this, the battery is running down far quicker.

I have already reset the SMC and the PRAM.

Can anyone offer some advice here? Also, I know this is a last resort, but is it possible to revert to an earlier version if nothing else works?

so i had a problem similar to this with the fan, except the fan wasn't working at all. also tried resetting smc, but to no avail. what i did, and what i recommend u to do is to open up the notebook, clean everything, take out the fan (make sure to unplug wires first to prevent ripping), clean it (compressed air recommended) and place back in (clicking noise when wires plugged back into slot). ur problem might be happening because ur pc doesn't have proper air circulation, hence more power needed by the fan to lower the motherboard's temperature.

u can also download macs fan control to monitor your fan speed and pc temperatures.

Thank you for your response.

Cleaning would make sense, however I have cleaned it out already in the last two months, and the issue didn't slowly appear - it happened immediately after installing 10.10.4.

I don't know if it's relevant but adding an SSD to your system can sometimes mess with the fan settings and speed. There are multiple threads on this forum concerning this matter but i couln't find them in a jiffy so try and search for yourself.

hey,

as linc davis mentioned, apps can definitely cause problems and hang ur pc, but since it was sudden, i dont think thats the problem (unless an app is messing with the new system upgrade?). try downloading macs fan control or smc fan control to monitor ur cpu temperature along with your fan speed (no malware or viruses, also have it) http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

check if temperature of anything is abnormal (above 60-70 for cpu) u can also change ur fan speed there (custom, ~2000rpm is normal). make sure no part of ur pc is hot by touching the different areas.
