Calendar won't match Google Calendar's colors

I have the iPhone 5c running 8.1.2

I have Google Calendar set up so that different calendars are code-colored. It makes seeing what I have ahead of me really easy for me.

But, my iPhone won't match those colors. Instead I have all these ugly browns and deep blues that are hard to tell apart.

I've done everything I can think of. Deleted my google account and reconnected it, closed the app, refreshed the calendars... Couple other things.

Any idea what's wrong or how to fix it?

I actually just discovered a very easy way to get the colors to match almost perfectly. The colors that you choose in Google calendar are set at the mid-range of their saturation. So, even when you choose one of their pre-selected options, they aren't as "bright" as they could be. Go to the colors option on the Gcal on your browser and choose "custom colors". Be sure the "dark text" option is chosen. Then, with the slider bar, slide your color choice up significantly to increase the color saturation. Close and then force a calendar sync on your iphone by going to the "calendar" page and pulling down on the screen. You should see your colors show up brighter and much more like what you actually chose in your browser. I hope this helps .

So I've done a little testing and here's what I found out. If on Google you have a calendar with a particular default color, the event will default to that color even if you change the color when creating the event. So if you have a calendar called Family with a default color of yellow, all events created on the iPhone will be in yellow. If you change a single event to be a different color, that will not change on the iPhone. If you change the color of the Family calendar to Green, all events on the iPhone will change to green.

Another thing to note is that the colors will not match perfectly to the Google calendar. The Google calendar has much brighter colors. On Google the bright pink becomes mauve/rose on the iPhone and you will see many other differences. Also, I noticed that if my iCloud calendar had a color - bright yellow for example - and Google calendar used bright yellow, it was changed to more of a pale yellow/maize color.

Unfortunately you can not edit the colors on the iPhone and simply have to use what is assigned to it when the calendar syncs.
