In Bootcamp, I go to the AMD site, run the auto detect app, it detects my 6970M perfectly fine, it downloads drivers, then when I run setup.exe, it fails because it can't find any appropriate hardware!

WHQL drivers may not work. Can you find the drivers appropriate drivers from System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers.
What is the year/model of your iMac? What is the version of Windows?
Thanks, but that's not really my question. The Bootcamp drivers are way behind, I have installed the WHQL AMD 14.301 drivers, but the 15.7 current ones won't install.
What I don't get, as per my original post, is how the AMD utility perfectly identifies the hardware, downloads the drivers (15.7) and then says it can't identify any relevant hardware when it tries to run the installer!
PS. It's a mid-2011 iMac and Windows 10
The stock and Apple versions are different and do not provide the same identifiers during the detection and setup phases.
Yep, I get that, but why is it detected OK by the AMD utility, and also, why does the AMD 14.301 package install OK but the newer 15.7.1 doesn't?
It depends on the INF files and card identifiers being used.
Can the inf file be modified to allow installation?
One suggestion is to extract the INF files from 14 and 15 in two different directories and check the INF files for differences. You can also run ioreg from the Mac terminal, but it may not provide information that is relevant for the driver installation, since these are two different OSes. You can compare VID and PID between the two though.
Sounds like a plan, but having looked at both install folders, I have no idea which inf file to look at!

The process worked as per that thread, but unfortunately Device Manager still says 14.3!
It is likely that some inf file which has the version information was not modified. You may want to check some files that are being loaded to verify that it is actually 14.3. Please post on that thread with a reply to the user who put the process together to see if that user has additional pointers.
