Q: MacMail transfer lost emails

I have just encountered an issue with using MacMail to transfer mails from a mailbox on one account on server "A" to another mailbox on a separate account on the same server. The process was transferring using send and receive procedure I suppose. Some way into the operation I needed to stop the transfer as I was running short of time. I did this by clicking the "x" next to the "outgoing emails" message in the mail activity window bottom left. Immediately after stopping this the emails in the donor mailbox completely disappeared.

I have tried restarting MacMail and rebuilding mailbox and sync and nothing seems to help. I also had the same account details on Thunderbird and checked that mailbox there and confirmed these mails are missing.

Is there any hope of recovery please?

Appreciate your help.

If you have backups, you can recover easily. If you don't have backups, slim to none.

Hi Linc, thanx for your reply. I am of a mind to dump MacMail finally. I had great hopes for it as it's Apple's own and assumed it would benefit from full functionality on OSX's also created by Apple. Boy how wrong was I? I like the interface but it's not worth the anxiety at all. Apple - this program and your apparent lack of support does you a disservice. Shame on you!

Linc what would you use as a mail client? I tried thunderbird. It seems to work but the front end looks a bit microsoft-ish for my liking. Opera won't allow me to add a second account on the same server it keeps returning the message "this server already exists".

    Pfft!

I don't have a recommendation. No matter which mail client you use, you will eventually lose every bit of data you have if you don't back up.
