Q: Songs in itunes playlist suddenly "not authorized"

Two days ago I was trying to play some music in my iTunes playlist that I downloaded from iTunes Store some time ago.  The songs played fine as recently as a week ago.  When I tried to play them, it requested that I enter my password for the iTunes Account.  When I entered the password, iTunes would skip to the next song on the album and the process repeated.

As I had an older version of iTunes, I upgraded to the latest version.  Now when I try to access these songs, it says "Cannot Open.  This content not authorized."

Other songs on the playlist (songs that added to iTunes by CD, or other song I purchased more recently on iTunes)  are working and playing fine.

I cannot identify a common thread for the songs that are not playing.

I cannot sync my phone with my computer currently as I won't be home for a couple of days.  Our system for work is PC based and I'm not able to add iTunes to it because of firewall restrictions.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Greetings Rippsterr,

Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, some songs are asking you to authorize them to be used on a computer. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

If iTunes repeatedly prompts you to authorize your computer - Apple Support

If you still can't authorize your computer to play your purchases, you might be able to resolve your issue by removing your SC Info folder. To do so, follow the steps below:

    OS X

    1. Quit iTunes and any other open applications until only Finder is open.
    2. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Go > Go to Folder.
    3. Type /Users/Shared/SC Info into the window.
    4. Click Go.
    5. If Finder is not already set to column view, set it by choosing View > as Columns from the menu bar at the top of your screen.
    6. Find the SC Info folder. Click and hold on it, and drag it to the trash.
    7. Restart your computer.
    8. Open iTunes.
    9. Authorize your computer. If you have multiple accounts or Apple IDs, authorize your computer for each account.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care

Sorry Mario, the issue is not with my computer, it is with my iPhone.

It happened on my iPhone, too, after installing 8.4.1. A song I have owned forever, from a CD, will no longer play in iTunes.

Rippsterr: Thanks for clearly stating your problem (I found it through Googling). I had the same issue yesterday. The common factor I identified was that the few things I couldn't play were once on CDs I had owned (remember those?). After I bought iCloud, I backed up everything and gave all my CDs to the library. I used the link from Mario 49 (below). When I got there, I chose the link for iPHONE as the problem (rather than iTunes), and then identified that the update (8.4.1) wasn't working as expected. I used my phone number as my ID. Apple emailed me a link to run a diagnostic. The choices were SHORT or EXTENDED. I chose EXTENDED. It took about four minutes. When it was done, I couldn't tell what happened, so I looked at the problem playlist. The song now appeared twice. One version played and the other did not.

I surmise this problem is occurring because I probably have a half dozen Apple IDs. Once 8.4 came out, I couldn't play half my music on my computer. I haven't had time to sort that out. In the case of my phone, I didn't have any difficulty until I downloaded 8.4.1.

The response from Mario 49 helped me https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
