I understand that audio is mute via the speakers on your iPhone 5s. I would start with seeing if any Bluetooth devices are connected when this issue happens. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, look for anything that is connected and disable Bluetooth. Once this is done, test the results. If the issue persists, I would go through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.
