Updating old MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8

I have a 17inch MacBook Pro (2006) with OS X 10.6.8. I can barely search on the internet because it is very outdated. I can't even check my gmail or go on Google Drive. What can I do to update my mac?

Unfortunately, your Mac can't upgrade to the newest OS X v10 Yosemite. That requires a MacBook Pro 2007 or newer > How to install OS X Yosemite on your Mac - Apple Support

Even if your Mac can run v10.7 Lion > System requirements for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6which is the next upgrade from v10.7 Snow Leopard, you'd still have an outdated system.

Google Drive requires v10.7 Lion or later > System requirements and browsers - Drive Help which is why you can't access Google Drive.

Time for a new Mac.
