Usually happens due to unit being dropped or some kind of force, making the connections between the MLBoard and the LCD loose or just a damaged LCD. You can either have replaced or have the LCD re-seated, which consists of opening the unit and having to replace glass digitizer also. There have been cases where the original glass digitizer can be put back on depending on how well the glass digi was taken off. There have also been cases where LCD comes on by lightly bumping the area of where the connector is, Lower Left Corner! Hope this info was of good assistance.

Force Restart the device:

Force Restart (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)

1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.

2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
