You can upgrade till 6GB( one 4GB PC2-5300 667MHz SO-DIMM 200-pin stick and one 2GB PC2-5300 667MHz SO-DIMM 200-pin stick)
I've been using late 2008 MacBook(2GHz Core2Duo) on Yosemite and it's not that bad performance I think.
