Q: "Photos" doesn't show image version of Aperture library
Hi,
About a year ago, I posted a query in this forum Re: Aperture and external hard drives
I wanted to save space on my MacBook, by moving a big chunk of pictures from the last couple of years to an external hard drive. I still wanted to visualise those pictures, but keep the originals (the heavy part of the image) on an external hard drive. Thanks to Léonie's advice, I was able to do so.
I followed Léonie's directions which were:
"Make your library referenced: Select all photos in the album and use the command "File > Relocate original file".This will leave the image versions in your library, but move the original image files to the external drive. You can browse all photos with the drive offline, but to be able to edit the images or to export them, the drive with the original files needs to be connected. The advantage of this method is, that your library will still be only one library. It simply moves the part that is needing the most space - the original files - to a different disk."
This has worked fabulously so far.
I have now updated to Yosemite 10.10.4 and switched to the new Photos app.
However, when opening Photos, I only see the latest album I had loaded onto my Aperture library a month ago. I hadn't referenced this album or relocated the original files. I do not see anymore all the albums from my Aperture app, pictures from the previous years, which were mere "image versions", as I had relocated the original files to my external hard drive.
I still have the hard drive with the original files of all those albums. However, is it possible to visualise under the Photos app all the "image versions" of those
albums like I used to have under Aperture?
FYI, I can no longer open my Aperture app.
Thank you very much for your help.
Diane
