Q: Transfer old iTunes library to new laptop using external hard drive?
How do I transfer my old itunes library to my new laptop?
Both laptops are windows 7.
I have got a full backup of all files and the itunes folder on an external hard drive, but I no longer have the old laptop.
I tried just putting all the songs in, but there were no play counts or ratings.
Next I tried copying the folder called "iTunes" from the hard drive to my new laptop, putting it into the same place as it was on the old laptop and changing the Itunes Media Folder location in Edit>Preferences>Advanced. I tried doing File>Library>Import playlist and I selected the xml file called iTunes Music Library. However an error message popped up saying "Some of the song in the file "iTunes Music Library were not imported as they could not be found" (No songs were imported)
I also tried importing the file Ituneslibrary.itl but the error message was "The file cannot be imported because it is not a valid export file"
Searching online has said to consolidate the files before backing up on an external hard drive (Puts all songs into iTunes Media folder) But as I don't have the old laptop anymore and only the copy of the folders, I can't do this on iTunes.
Is there a way to solve this?
Windows laptop, Windows 7

Move or copy the iTunes Library to an other disk/computer, then start the iTunes in the other computer while holding the Alt key (for mac) or the CTL key(for Windows?) and point to the new iTunes Library in answer to the which Library you want to open. Then when there is a question "treat this as the default Library" (in Mac) answer YES.
