Aug 12, 2015 8:11 PM in response to jasonweis12by markwmsn,A few questions so we're all on the same page, if you don't mind:
What exact model Mac do you have, and what version of [Mac] OS X is it running?
Are you talking about a builtin SD card slot (in a MacBook, perhaps)?
Are you talking about a separately purchased SD card reader plugged into a USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt port (and which, if so)?
What exactly do you mean by "is not reading" the card and drive?
Has this Mac been able to read your SD card and external drive before, or is this the first time you have tried?
If it was working before, what else has changed since it last worked (like installing a new system update)?
Without those answers, my best guess is that you are talking about an external card read and external drive plugged into USB ports, that it hasn't worked since a recent system upgrade, and that the problem is that your Mac's Finder Preferences aren't set to display external drives either on the desktop or in the sidebar.

Aug 13, 2015 9:03 AM in response to Lexiepexby Lanny,Not on the MacBook 2015. It has a USB-C port and a headphone jack.
I've made several requests that the "MacBook" title needs to be clarified, but it's intended to be for the 12" Retina MacBook Early 2015. There are at least a dozen incorrect postings a day.

Because he posted his question in the 2015 MacBook Retina area instead of the 13" MacBook (2006-2013) area.
I'm pretty sure this post has been moved since it was created. I'm know this is not the forum in which I commented on it; I don't visit this forum except when dragged here, as now. I think I found it in the Mac Pro forum.
Now, if only the original poster would come back and answer our questions, perhaps we could answer his. Where are you, jasonweis12?

Aug 13, 2015 12:09 PM in response to markwmsnby jasonweis12,Sorry for the delay. When I inserted the SD card it would not read it for a few times. I saw some videos that said it was a contact issue and not to push it in as far. That did not work. I then restarted it it was picking up the SD card. Not sure if this will reoccur .
