Q: Early 2011 MacBook Pro windows 10

Obviously windows 10 isn't supported on an early 2011 MacBook Pro, but can it still be installed onto it?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Thanks for your response Chris_new_york_0502 and julianporter5

I can confirm I have been using Windows 10 on my 15" early 2011 macbook pro, I cant seem to get any kind of bootcamp to install. I have tried creating a package via Mac OS, and also downloaded a few different versions I found on the net. All seem to through back some message about not being for this laptop.

The buttons for volume etc don't work. And I have found the laptop to crash 2-3 times consecutively after which it will work without issues for around 4-5 days, I have noticed that the laptop fan kicks in and stays on for a minimum of 20 minutes at a time. Its not a major concern at the moment.

I think this must be a video driver issue.

If I find any solutions I'll update you guys. although I might just go back to windows 7 wither way I'll keep checking back and update you guys on what I've decided

    Mak

I have the same HW config. Currently running win8.1 / Yosemite. Windows 10 Update scan tells me every thing should work including all installed apps except for Apple Broadcom built-in Bluetooth. Have you checked if the BT is working?

I have the Late 2011 Mac Pro. I just wiped my entire machine to upgrade to a larger hard drive. I did the CMD+OPT+R to boot the Online Installer for LION. Then upgraded directly to El Capitan. Then I did one more small update in mac (for camera or something). Then I started the Bootcamp process and downloaded the 5.1 drivers from the 6.0 bootcamp UI. Then I installed Windows 10 x645 Multi Version. I applied the 5.1 drivers to my bootcamp and everything is working really well! Really smooth process. Bluetooth works, wifi works, brightness works, sound works, trackpad completely works. THANKS APPLE!

p.s. the only issue I had was I had to force power down after the first reboot because it was stuck on the Blue Windows Icon screen at boot.

p.p.s I am doing a windows update right now and I will let you know if there are any issues from the updates.

Do you know of a place to download these updated 5.1 drivers?  I used 5.1 drivers on my early 2011 MBP and I'm still not able to use any of the function keys (volume up/down, brightness, etc).  I wonder if I should give Bootcamp Assistant a try again.

    UPDATE:

    MacBook Pro early 2011, running OS X El Capitan and Window 10 with BootCamp 5.1 (or the latest version 5);

So has anyone actually tried to use the most up to date bootcamp 6 drivers? If 5.1 are working for both windows 8.1 and 10, I can't imagine why the 6 wouldnt.

The BC6 drivers are meant for 2012 and later Mac models due to hardware differences.

Dude I did it once then I downgraded once I found out that my drivers were compatible with that edition I decided to give it a go. In almost a month on my birthday I decided to restart the pc to windows 10. The screen booted black and it stayed like that no key combos worked and i'm still currently working on getting my pc fixed. If you are planning on upgrading your pc to windows 10 through bootcamp and you have a early 2011. I'd advise you stay away until its supported.

    Hi there:

Was anyone able to do a fresh install of Windows 10 with an ISO of it on bootcamp? I can't get Bootcamp to recognize it. I'm trying to upgrade from a 32-bit OEM version of Windows 7 that I've been using with VMware so I'm not sure if the Key will even let me do it but supposedly OEM user get the upgrade too.

    Thank you!

Actually I took it to the repair shop and I found out that my issue wasn't a software issue but hardware. It was the motherboard not windows 10 phew. So I suppose I take back everything I just said previously. And yes it can be installed you have to go to bootcamp assistant, take out a flash drive or external hard drive and move the drivers there. Then when you have done upgraded to windows 10 you can take the drivers you have downloaded previously and click on the bootcamp installer to install them all at once. Or if you can't do that you have to install the drivers one by one. Also, you have to take into risk that Windows 10 still has bugs and early 2011 pc's aren't supported yet. If you do upgrade, you do so at your own risk. As for me I've been using Windows 10 for awhile and I haven't found any serious issues with it.
