how are most companies handling not having apple id/pw for company issued phones when employee leaves?

Do not permit employees to use their personal Apple IDs on company owned devices, or, if you choose to do so, make sure they have removed them prior to turning it in. If they don't do so, then you need strong policies allowing you to deduct the cost of the unusable equipment from their final pay as if they had not turned it in at all.


If you have proof of corporate ownership, you can take that and the phone to Apple and have the activation lock removed.
