macbook 13" unibody A1342 -- battery replacement cost? *Canada

Hi All,

I have a MacBook 13" (white, unibody, circa-2010/2011, model A1342) and I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost to have my battery replaced. I have seen the tables that list repair costs for battery replacements in the states, but when I look at the info for Canada, my model magically disappears from the list. Is this a typo on Apple's part? Is it impossible to get my battery replaced if I'm in Canada? The systems of the laptop still work completely fine so I have no real reason to buy an entirely new computer but I would really like to get a new battery so that I don't need to have it constantly plugged in. Additionally, the Apple store closest to me is almost constantly PACKED with people and I'd like to avoid waiting around in large, loud crowds for an hour just to have someone tell me that either a) the battery can't be replaced or b) it will cost me five arms and three legs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ffionn

You could look into the iFixit repair guides for the section on your build model

MacBook that shows how to open the back and replace the battery anew...

Also, companies such as OWC have quality replacement batteries for certain models

re: this one for MacBook http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/BAP13MBU65W

this appears to include the screwdriver tools. If in doubt ask macsales.

Instructions should also be in the OWC macsales site on how to access the battery,

in addition, they have info & instructions on how to replace storage drives, RAM, etc.

Replacement hard drives, solid-state-drives, optical drives and other parts also are

available from this source. You can also ask for information without commitment.

The battery itself may be unavailable at a retail Apple Store; although an Authorized

independent Apple service provider could have a suitable replacement in stock, or

could get one, you can get a quality replacement from reputable source, & also do

the installation yourself. A few tools will be necessary; OWC has them, as do iFixit:

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
