Q: Audiobook purchased from iTunes not letting you redownload on another device
I've had a disappointing experience with an audiobook originally purchased on an iPad. After a several calls and chat with iTunes support, I come to find out that I cannot re-download such audiobook into my phone because such book https://itun.es/us/wbkQ5 is apparently not part of iTunes in the cloud due to DRM issues.
I understand that. I just wish I'd have been informed of that BEFORE pressing buy. Here are my grievances:
1) Transferring the book from device to device is a total hassle - you need a computer as a hub to transfer the content.
2) The listening spot does not sync among devices.
3) If for any reason you reset your iPad, and want to listen to such audiobook again, you need to either: Have had a local backup on you computer, or call Apple support and ask them to repost it for you. So much for "Yay! iTunes in the cloud" :\
3) It has taken over 2 hours of dropped support calls and chat, to figure all this out.
I believe that when buying such content there should be a note/warning akin to:
"Audiobooks and ringtones are not part of the iTunes in the cloud due to DRM ( Digital Management Rights ). This purchase is only playable on this device"
All my other audiobooks (purchased from Amazon) can be transferred and continue playing exactly where I left off, regardless of the device I'm listening.
With all the touting from Apple about the benefits of the cloud, and then come to find that some content is not part of it and NOT being informed about it upfront, is disappointing. Until this gets fixed, note to self: Do not buy audiobooks from Apple.
I'm posting this in the Apple Support Communities, in case it saves time on the phone to someone else.
