For one thing, the servers are probably very busy/overtaxed when millions of people try to download the same thing...... so, I'd wait a day or so and attempt it again. At that point, make sure you log out of the app store and then log back in, go to Updates and then try again.
Many people is trying to download right now and servers might not be able to handled that kid of pressure. Either wait or try to download standalone updates:
IF you are on 10.10.4, you can use this file: OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 Update
For other 10.10.x: OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 Combo Update
This procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by system processes. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/var/folders/zz
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder named "zz" selected. Move that subfolder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Hello,
I have had the same problem as described above today. From my understanding, the overload issue with apple servers should no longer be a problem, as this update is available for some days now. However, after some attempts to install update from App Store, I just restarted my computer. Do so, installation from AppStore was completed successfully. But now when I check App Store for updates of the last 30 days, I can see the same update installed about 6 times successfully today. What does this mean? Is solution described above applicable to my issue?
Thank you in advance for feedback!
See Linc Davis's post above.
Hello Eric,
I did all steps Linc Davis recommended but I am still seen six times the same OS X-update version 10.10.5 in the history.
Would it be better to uninstall update and re-try installation again? If yes, how can I do that?
Have you tried to download either of the standalone updates as mentioned above.
the download will be quicker and more reliable.
Hi,
the update 10.10.5 has been installed on my MacBook Retina. My problem is, I see now that update in the AppStore 6 times installed successfully. It looks like an replication error or mirorring. I am looking for feedback, why the update is shown multiple times. I hope someone have a hint how to get AppStore clear of these multiple entries.
Thanks Albena
Hi glad you got it installed eventually. the list contains the amount of times you have tried to install it and the download failed. that is fairly typical App Store
behaviour. To clear the list you need to trash the updatejournal.plist. you can get to it by following this path. Your user Library may be hidden, to make it visible, whilst in Finder, click Go on the menu bar, then press the alt key and the submenu should now show your library, click on that to open it.
Hi,
follow instruction and moved updatejournal.plis to the trash. The update view of the App Atore is now blank mut this is not but it doen't bother me. Thank you so much for support!
