A complete HowTo setup for Spam Assassin?

I've a mail service based on OSX (10.4.8) server. I've configured it to look for spams an viruses (fliters tab). Spams are redirect to a special account to be checked. In this account, I find a lot of spam and some real mail. But a lot of spams continue to be delivred to users. Because the volume of delivered spam increases, I decided to configure Spamassassin. And here I'm lost. I try to learn to SA but I'm not sure (must be in root to be apply?). A lot of pieces of information are available on many thread and external links. Explainations on the manual are not explicite. I've understood that there are a lot of external tools, rules, etc. not in the manual.
So if somebody can write a complete Howto, I think it will help a lot of people, me first!
