Q: Solution for Bootcamp 6 error on Windows 10

I've had the same problem as many of you when trying to install Bootcamp 6 on my Windows 10 machine. The error about "not valid boot camp service" and wrong "bootcamp.msi" and "The installed product does not match the installation source(s)" kept popping up.

Here's what I did to fix it:

  • Create a restore point (just in case)
  • Make sure you downloaded BootCamp 6 via "Apple Software Update" (will also work if Apple releases the files directly for download)
  • Navigate to C:\Users\{yourUsername}\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\ (you might need to turn on "Show hidden files" in Explorer if you can't see it), there you'll see a file called AppleBcUpdate.exe. Either open WinRar or rename that file to "AppleBcUpdate.exe.zip" (you might need to turn on "Show file extensions in Explorer) and double click it. Extract the two folders in there to the root of D:\ or C:\ (doesn't really matter).
  • Click the start button and type in "regedit". Right click -> Run as administrator
  • Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products and find the folder "A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26". Rename that folder to something like "_A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26" or whatever. You can also export it (as a backup) and then just delete it.
  • Close regedit.
  • Click the start button and type in "cmd". Right click -> Run as administrator
  • Type in "D:" (if you extract BootCamp to D:\). Then "cd BootCamp\Drivers\Apple". Now type in "BootCamp.msi" and hit enter.
  • The installer should now run through fine.
  • Restart your computer, even if you're not prompted to do so.

This is what worked for me. I have now a successful BootCamp 6 installation on Windows 10:

Many thanks too! It worked for me with Mac Book Pro mid 2009. I had a clean Windows 10 installed. My observations:
    - In my case there was not such folder in the registry. So I did not edit anything there and I just followed the instructions.

    - Realtek audio drives hanged in my case too and I have followed the workaround (this had happened with Boot Camp 5 as well).

    - I had tried different other ways before, like installing Bootcamp 5 drivers first and so on, and in those cases I had to reinstall some of the drivers. With this method though there have been no unrecognized devices and I'm extra pleased...

I followed your way and the boot camp 6 is installed.

HOWEVER, (IMPORTANT, HOPE TO BE SOLVED SOON!)

here's the thing: the Microsoft office cannot be used. The Microsoft office 365 cannot be installed. All the apps like Words, Excel are no longer functional. It says something like your trial has end while that's not the case. Now you can only view the files but cannot modify them. ALL the office apps can no longer be used while they play huge role in Microsoft system.

One more thing, I tried to modify the file name "_A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26" back to what is was "A2C2B2AF14AEA5943980062716525D26". That didn't work either.

Really need someone to solve this!

So what happens when both the .exe in the local folder and the registry location you mention don't exist? I can't see either (do have hidden folders on and ran as admin)? When attempting to run BC 6 installer (downloaded from apple assistant) I get the installer stopped working error followed by a blank error box...

EDIT OF MY LAST POST: For accuracy, I would like to correct some information. Those devices that were not automatically installed during the Boot Camp installation process, - namely the "Other devices - Coprocessor" and the "Other devices - Bluetooth USB Host Controller or something device, which requires Bluetooth drivers (sorry I cannot recall how exactly the device is 'seen' before the drivers are installed) -, were still not installed and I had to manually do it, after following this method as well.

I  have the same issue with my mac mini late 2012.  This so-called, "solution" is spurious at best.  Not concerned about defunct Boot Camp 6 drivers for Windows 10, so long as Boot Camp 5 drivers operate adequately.

There are driver signing issues with BC5 drivers. BC6 drivers should install normally. Do you get any errors when you try to install BC6 drivers? The merge of bc5/bc6 drivers is problematic the way it is written by Apple.

Thanks for asking.  Yes, for 1. The Apple Updater continually fails to install the update after downloading the files. 2. I get an OS error when following the original poster's directions verbatim, e.g. in the CMD window, upon executing the unzipped Bootcamp.msi, CMD claims Windows 7 OS must be installed. When executing this same file in Windows 10 GUI, it errors that higher privileges are required even when executing from Admin in the GUI. Then 3. So what is left is to run the unzipped Boot Camp 6 Setup file. That results with a consistent Windows error with no explaination or options other than closing the message box. Thek Apple installer reboot screen pops up to only find Boot Camp 5 remains intact and Apple Updater pop ups containing to prompt updating Boot Camp 6 drivers for Windows 10. Three strikes and Boot Camp 6 update is Out.

Do you want to download the BC6 drivers using

    BC6-Assistant-Download-Software.png

and try the setup.exe in the Bootcamp folder? Please post the Product Version from bootcamp.xml, if you use this method.

This worked like a charm, Bro! Many thanks!!

In OSX, I D/L the windows support software to a thumb drive and booted into Windows 10, then ran the Boot Camp Setup file with Admin privileges and the program began to install. A blank popup msg appeared with Close as the only option making me think, here we go again, but the drivers all loaded subsequently like butter. The bootcamp.xml version is from 8/12/2015. Whereas the bootcamp.xml version from the Apple Updater program is from 8/11/2015.

If you are happy with all your drivers and do not have an unknown device or any entries with yellow triangle and exclamation mark, please back up OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point for future recovery.

If you have enabled Windows Automatic Updates, you can run into driver issues with WHQL drivers. My recommendation is to disable Automatic Updates, and run it manually and carefully choose drivers to update. Always create a System Restore point before any driver updates.
