If you have held them down for 30 seconds or longer and the reset does not initiate, then you may have to put the device in Recovery mode:
Also, can you provide more information about what you mean by your post? How are you thinking it was "hacked"? What would someone "posing as Microsoft" have to do with an Apple device?
