Safari browser dropping cookies when status code is 401

We are seeing a strange behaviour when using Safari Browser (Both on MAC (Browser versions 5.1.10 and 8.0.6) and Windows (Browser Version 5)) and when a server is setting a cookie in response and sending back with 401 status code. Safari is replying back but is loosing cookies / Headers sent. We are trying to perform a NTLM authentication. The same is working fine when using Firefox / Chrome (Cookies is being sent back properly).

One of the MAC has OS X 10.10 and another has OS X 10.6.8.

OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Further to add to above query the cookies are being dropped only for NTLM request and not for request with 401 as status code.

Does anyone have observed this kind of behaviour? Also if anyone could shed some light on how to debug / see what safari is doing internally (any logs etc)?
