You cannot add equations to Pages by default, so you have to use a third-party app. As a student, I have used these ones:

    1. Daum Equation Editor. It is free and you can get it from the Mac App Store.
    2. MathType. You have to pay for this app but in my opinion it's worth the money. If money is not a problem, I'd recommend this one.

Another option is to purchase Microsoft Office for Mac, because Microsoft Word comes with an equation editor by default that works great.

The MathType application has a 30-day trial. Afterwards, it becomes the free MathType Lite with the MathType fonts still installed.

That's very easy with a free application that you already should have on your system (it comes with your installation of OS X). It's called Grapher.app and resides inside your /Applications/Utilities folder. It allows you to create mathematical graphs from formulas and contains a nice mathematical formula editor. Compose your math formula there and then copy/paste it into your document.

    Hope this helps.
