Q: Will Compressor 4 work with Final Cut 7?

Need to purchase Compressor, I think, so I can add closed captioning to a program I'm editing.

I guess my first question is, can I do that with Compressor 3? If not, I'm going to buy Compressor 4, will it work ok with Final cut 7?

Thank you

Compressor 4,2 is an improvement over Compressor 3.5 in many areas, but sub titles is not one of those areas – that capability is unchanged.

And eggier is no inter-ooerability with legacy versions of FCP and recent versions of Compressor. There is, of course, no reason why a self-contained movie can't be exported from FCP 7 and then imported into Compressor 4,2 for processing.

Compressor only lets you import a properly formatted closed caption file, which it will match to the video being transcoded.  That's it.

If you do this a lot, look into MacCaption.
